Born in Toronto, Canada, Jan Rankin began painting just over 5 years ago. Fortunately, there is a community art gallery near her home and this was where she sold her first painting, a large colourful floral titled “Born to Be Wild”. Her work is known to be bold, colourful, often highly textured and occasionally embellished with stones, crystals or other surprises.
Jan has had a variety of experiences before becoming a painter and holds a degree in Social Work from the University of British Columbia. Currently, Jan lives, loves and plays in Ladner, BC with her husband George and 3 black cats. They share 4 grown sons.
Willing to experiment and continuously trying new and different approaches with acrylics and mixed media enables Jan to express her love of colour and texture. While not having formal art training she continues to learn and study and attending various workshops. Her work is in private collections in BC, Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Her current creative project in the studio is a series of works about The Great Delta Bog (aka Burns Bog) with the hope of bringing attention to the need to preserve and protect this profoundly important ecological area near her home.
Jan is very active in her supporting her local art community as founder and organizer of “FOR THE LOVE OF ART IN SOUTH DELTA” by organizing show & sale events for artists & artisans in the Greater Vancouver area with a special focus on those living & working Ladner and Tsawwassen.
